It the grips are original to the gun with matching serial number on the back of the right grip, AND have no grip medallions, it's likely from 1920 or slightly later. Jim.S&W revolvers come in different frame sizes; J, I, K, N, etc. The N refers to the frame size. The stainless steel version of the Model 29 is the Model 629 which came out in 1980.
